Celebrating a Year of Community in Taylor Run
This past year has been a big one for the Taylor Run Citizens' Association, and we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Here’s a look at what we’ve achieved—and what’s ahead for the rest of 2025!
2024 Highlights
Last year, TRCA…
- Preserved 2-Way Duke St. Access: Our biggest win! Thanks to your support, we stopped the conversion of the Duke St. Service Road into a one-way street. With over 195 petition signatures and the community’s participation in more than a dozen meetings, Council shelved the City’s plan. The fight isn’t over, though—your continued advocacy is key to securing safe, reliable, and convenient access.
- Built Ties with City Leaders: In our advocacy efforts, all but the former mayor and one council member joined us for an on-site neighborhood listening tour. This strengthened connections with Council, ensured your voices were heard, and allowed us to ask tough questions.
- Co-Hosted a Candidate Debate: Two weeks before the election, we brought neighbors together to meet City Council candidates, ask critical questions, and advocate for meaningful action from our Council nominees.
- Hosted Community Events: We hosted a fun & free National Night Out at Angel Park, bringing neighbors together to meet local law enforcement and first responders. We were joined by dozens of our community members, with free food and activities for all ages, strengthening our community bonds and promoting public safety.
- Opened Monthly Meetings to the Public: We now meet monthly, and these meetings are open to all! Community members, along with special guests like the Sheriff, APD, and local developers joined us to share updates and insights into what’s happening in the community. Visit our website to keep track of upcoming meetings, and if you haven’t already, sign up for our newsletter to learn more.
- Revised Our Constitution: We updated our constitution to better reflect our values and adapt to the diverse interests of our community. These changes position us to advocate more effectively for your needs in the future. Join our Board to help us make this a safer & more connected community!
Looking Ahead
In 2025, we’re committed to:
- Continuing our traffic and safety advocacy.
- Expanding our park beautification projects.
- Supporting more students with scholarships.
- Hosting even more engaging events to bring our community together.
Join Us!
We couldn’t do any of this without YOU! Membership is free, and you can join the list to keep up-to-date on community events and make Taylor Run an even better place to live.
If you’re looking for ways to get involved, you can:
- Become a community member. This ensures you’ll receive our emails and can keep up-to-date on events, petitions, and developments that affect the Taylor Run neighborhood.
- Help us spread the word. We’ve got 100s of community members, but there are many more who are not yet on our list. Let your neighbors know they can sign up via the link above to keep in touch.
- Attend our monthly meetings, either virtually or in person at Alexandria First Christian. We use these meetings to collect feedback from & share updates with the community.
- Join our Board to get involved on a deeper level, helping to shape and implement our plans for 2025. It’s a small commitment (~5 hours/month and your attendance at our meetings every 3rd Wednesday evening), and we can really use the extra hands!
Stay tuned for updates on upcoming projects and events—we can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together in the year ahead!
